'Britcoin' (or the digital pound to give its official name) is a proposal by the Bank of England for a new type of money. It seems likely to happen with over 190 central banks around the world exploring similar ideas for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). But it is controversial - with public fears about lack of privacy, state control, and the end of cash. The Government has promised a parliamentary vote before the Britcoin can go ahead.
